COD4 crashes

Anyone else having an issue with their game? Mine now crashes when I click join to select a multplayer server. It just happened the other day, and I've had zero issues up to this date. I cannot understand what is going on. All that I can think of is that I had last played on ESC, for the first time, the night before. To add, I purchased COD4 on Steam, but it's V8, not compatible with your mod, which is V7. Any suggestions is appreciated.

Most servers are version 1.7. Steam rolled out an update for Call of duty 4 a couple of years back so since then when you buy a copy on steam it comes with the rolled out version 1.8. I dont know if playing other servers will change your game version or not. If that is what your issue is then you will have to switch it to version 1.7. Other than that there are many reasons why your game would crash.
